11/26/12 A Happy Birthday Supper Club

Woops!  Several weeks have gone by since a supper club update.  Once again, this post is courtesy of Mairnee.  A Happy Birthday Uncle Steve Supper Club.

In attendance:
Uncle steve
Gma
Nancy
Megan
Mairnee

Theme: Royal Inn Pizza

Uncle steve drove nancy, gma, and mairnee to Trenton. Gma had lost car keys earlier in the day but they were just under the floor mat. Had to go get tail light bulb at oreillys and uncle steve parked in 2 parking spots.
Got to royal inn pizza. Met megan there. She was sitting in her car talking on her phone. Went inside, decided to sit down before we ordered. TJC baseball team was there having buffet so we decided to have buffet too. Uncle steve, meg, and mairnee got beers. They tried to tell us there were no coors lites left but they really had some. Gma had lots of different kinds of salads. There was bacon pizza, veggie pizza, BBq pizza and some cinnamon pizza. We didn't get to the taco bar, french fries, or pasta bar so we will have to go back. It was a good atmosphere. Uncle steve and meg got 1 pizza in 2 boxes to take home to their spouses. Nancy drove gma and mairnee home after a quick stop to hyvee to buy 29 cent cans of vegetables. We sat down to watch a bit of tv and nancy said she was going to go make some hot tea for everyone but only made it for herself so mairnee got mad and went to bed. Fire blazin'.

Latecomer due to hot yoga:  Megan

MENU:
Pork Chops
Mixed Vegetables
Salad
Applesauce

Cherry Pie

This week's supper club was quite exciting.  Mairnee and Marissa arrived around the same time.  Read several catalogs.  Lookin for Christmas deals.  Mairnee helped Gma check her email.  Marissa thought an orange sunkist sounded good.  So did Gma.  They each enjoyed a mini can.

Gma had a fire going.  Nice and toasty in the living room.

Uncle Steve and Nichole arrived.  Time for dinner!  Gma's porkchops were excellent.  She tried a new recipe.  It was a good one.  It had been many years since Uncle Steve had mixed veggies.  In fact, at supper club, he had seconds!  "Ohhhhyaaahh, I'm havin' a lil bit of everythaaang."

Gma's cherry pie and Nichole & Paula Deen's pumpkin crunch were awesome.

Fun fact:  Nichole ate a cherry pie every night while in high school.  "That's a true story."
She also went on a trip to Washington, D.C. on a bus.  She hung out with a girl named Tameka.

We talked alot about Lil Sawyer's guinea pig, Polly.  We all can't wait to meet her.  Maybe she will come over for Christmas?

Uncle Steve wrapped up the chicken legs to take for lunch on Thursday.  Hope he didn't get the mail all greasy.

Megan joined us and ate dinner in the living room.  Big Sawyer didn't join in on the fun.  He was tired from tearing down a chimney all day.

Hope to see you all soon.  A great time was had by all at this installment of Supper Club!

Halloweenie Supper Club 10/31/12

Once again, this supper club has been recorded by Mairnee.  Pasted in her words.

Gma, uncle steve, mairnee

Menu: EATIN OUT

Mairnee and Uncle Steve got to Gmas at same time. Rode 3 wide in the pick up to cameron to RED X to pick up gmas car. Right after Winston, low fuel light came on in pick up. Got to dealership. Lots of man creeps hanging around there. Drove around and looked at the equinoxes.

Mairnee and gma got into the buick. Uncle Steve said he was going to see how far he could get w low fuel light on.

Had to decide between Mi Mexico and El Maguey. Obviously Mi Mexico. Our waiter came to take our order but some man at the next booth insisted that he order his cheesecake before we order our food. Uncle Steve spilled salsa all over his menu. Gma and Mairnee both got a #6 with the taco, enchilada, rice and beans. Gma didn't want rice though so they gave her 2 servings of beans which roughly equals probably 1 can. She ate them all. Uncle Steve had some fajita quesadilla. We tried to decide how drunk you could get off a 26 oz margarita for $3.99. Here is a pic of dinner.

Mairnee and gma came on home and Uncle Steve decided to get a little gas in pick up.

Lots of little goblins and amish out in jamesport. Mairnee took a shower while gma fixed some rose tea. Uncle Steve read a paper. As Uncle Steve was getting ready to leave, trick or treaters showed up. It was May sisters with 2 kids. One was daphne duck or whatever donald ducks lady is named and the other was a football player. Gma had 2 little treats ready for them. Uncle Steve left and sat. Mairnee had to study for test so they could not watch crap tv. It was hard to study as both stomachs were making bean noises. In the living room. Everybody turned in.

Many things could not be blogged this evening as they contained too much personal, private, or embarrassing information. "Don't blog that."

MENU:

Fried chicken

mac n cheese
pumpkin pie w cream cheese bottom
Choc covered peanuts

Events:

Steve says "it felt like storm all day. I saw a turtle. That means its going to storm."

Megan shows up outside and says "smells like fried chicken".

Megs dawgs came out- tied up in yard.

Gus cornered a bunny rabbit.
Megan brought cat food pan in so dogs wouldn't eat soggy moldy bread slices.

Uncle Steve had to pull out nose hairs.

Bubbadoo bought a magic bullet and was making hot fudge sundae shakes.

Gma says "any Halloween decorations I have are from a long time ago" candle pumpkin is old.

Sawyer asks " do Amish trick or treat?"

Sawyer has kit kat from JCS that turned to dust when he ate it.

After eating we retired to living room to watch world series game. Sawyer got too hot and almost had to take shirt off. Talked about keyboard class and timed typing tests.

Found pic of nun in roller blades in ladies home journal and laughed.

Also Grandma says "I can always tell when people have gained weight".

And we were like "we know"...HAHAHA.

Everybody tired.

And a good time was had by all who attended Wednesday night supper club. See you next week!

10/17/12 Supper Club

In attendance: Grandma, Megan, Mairnee, Nancy Sue, Uncle Steve
A little late:  Marissa, Sawyer

 Menu

Appetizers:
Funny Navels (i'm guessing...I arrived late and Grandma was throwing one back)
Coronas/Miller Lites/Coors Light

Dinner/Theme:
It's almost the holidays...
Salad
Crusty rolls
Corn (not from a can)
Cooked carrots
Steak
Mashed potatoes

Dessert:
Dove dark and milk chocolate ice cream bars

Oh my.  Nancy Sue planned this evening's supper club.  She went all out.  Fancy tablecloth, dishes, candles.  It was almost as if it was rehearsal dinner for Thanksgiving.  She was really excited about those crusty rolls.

Everyone was in great spirits.  Megan's on vacation, Sawyer loves his job, Grandma's drinking funny navels.  Uncle Steve was getting over "the drizzles".  Dinner was lovely.  We are all thankful for the bounty of corn that Uncle Steve harvested.  It added so much to our meal this evening and many more to come.

"We truly are blessed."--Grandma RoseMary

Many good stories were shared.  One that really sticks out is a story about Michael at Landes Oil when he was a baby.  It needs to be shared at the next holiday, because many have probably never heard it before.

We, again, retired to the living room to listen to a bit of Christy Lane.  Power was out in all of Jamesport.  Meg and Sawyer had to go home to see what was happening.  Wonder if Sawyer showered in candlelight or did Meg have to hold the flashlight for him?

Not many notes were taken during this supper club.  If anyone in attendance remembers something funny, let us know in the comments!

And a good time was had by all who attended Wednesday night supper club. See you next week!

10/10/12 Supper Club

In attendance: Grandma, Megan, Mairnee, Marissa
A little late:  Nichole, Uncle Steve

 Menu

Appetizers:
Cool Ranch Doritos
Crackers and Swiss cheese
Chilled cider drink

Dinner/Theme:
Pizza Hut Night
Pepperoni Pizza
Supreme Pizza
Breadsticks
Salad

Dessert:
Russell Stover's candy
Hot cider drink

Oh man.  Who doesn't love Pizza Hut pizza?  Big thanks to Megan for picking up the pizza on her way home from work in Trenton.  Mairnee and Marissa arrived at the same time.  Grandma had just gotten a new permanent.  It looked very nice and sassy.

Megan arrived with the pizza and the fun began.  Grandma said she forgot to put red onion in the salad. We all made a face when she said that, so it's a good thing she left it out.  While eating, we looked through many catalogs for Christmas gift ideas.  Marissa and Mairnee found quite a few items that Sawyer might enjoy.

YEAH!

After dinner was done.  Grandma said, "Why don't we go in the living room where it is more comfortable."  Megan began reading the 2013 Farmer's Almanac.  She thought she was reading horoscopes, she was actually reading about the tides.  We found out the best days to start a diet, the length of a cow's gestation and that it would be snowing lightly at the beginning of January.

Mairnee was doing alot of texting.  Grandma was sure worried about who she was talking to.  Marissa caught up on Ladies Home Journal.  We listened to Christy Lane (?) cassette tapes and hummed along.  Uncle Steve and Nichole soon arrived.

Hot cider, anyone?

Megan found a tape labeled "Megan's 4-H interview".  We listened and fast forwarded until we finally heard a voice of a Brushy Squirrel we recognized--Kristen Gillam.  Next was Megan.  She was 9 years old at the time of this interview, her voice sure was high pitched!  Megan told us how last year when she went to the KTTN studios, she had to sit in the DJ chair--it smelled like old toots and was sprinkled with dandruff.  This led Nichole to tell us that when she was in high school, she used to go to KTTN while someone she knew was cleaning and would snoop through the desks and mess with the radio controls.  She found many pictures of a lady on a beach in a bikini.  Can't remember who she said it was, though.

Nancy showed Grandma saw the blog and wondered why it is called a blog.

Mairnee had to wear a hairnet at work this past week because a patient had lice.

We were all exhausted, but a good time was had by all at this week's supper club.

Just a relaxin' evening.

Next week's theme: Tacos?

 Menu

Appetizers:
Peanuts
Hot cider drink
Cowboy dip/Tortilla chips
Coronas/Coors Light

Dinner:
Hot dogs
Mac & cheese
Chili beans
Salad

Dessert:
Praline Brownies
Pumpkin Cheesecake (so light!)

This feels a little bit like writing a column for the Tri-County news. Mairnee and Marissa arrived first to supper club. Raymond Yoder and family were picking what's left of Gma's apples. Pretty sure they left with 16 buckets full.  Hope Gma gets an apple pie delivered to her house.

Marissa read a cookbook of dessert recipes from when Nancy was in high school. She found a Tri-County band concert program tucked between the pages of the cookbook. Kaitlyn and Megan were featured playing the trumpet in this specific concert. Mairnee and Marissa snacked on peanuts and beers.

Grandma got antsy and started gathering wood for her bonfire. She couldn't wait on Uncle Steve any longer. Mairnee and Marissa were not aware that a bonfire was a part of the evening. It was a nice surprise.

Check out that fire.  And all those hot dogs!

Finally Uncle Steve and Nichole arrived. Grandma told Uncle Steve "Oh, 3 sticks should do it." All of us gathered bit more than 3 sticks for the fire. Uncle Steve got a bucket of water just in case. It was a bit windy out. Most of the debris was moved out of the way. Still a couple of beer bottles and random tin cans lying around. They didn't pose any danger.

Tatumn is selling Pizza Hut pizza cards. For $10 you can buy a card with coupons for buy one large pizza, get a medium for 99 cents. Marissa and Grandma bought one.

Uncle Steve couldn't remember who sang the country song "Fore She was Momma". None of us could remember either. Megan soon arrived and "goggled" it on her smart phone. Turns out it was Clay Walker. Megan played the song on her phone and Grandma asked her how she played that. We also talked about the Eric Church concert and the suburban flat tire

Megan informed us that she had to go to the hospital after work. She is not injured, her coworker had a baby.

It was dinner time. Hot dogs were roasted over the red hot bonfire in the backyard. Marissa roasted Grandma's hot dog for her. Uncle Steve roasted Meg and Nichole's. Everything was delicious. The mac & cheese was a big hit! Grandma said "Those chili beans need more chili!"

Meanwhile, Uncle Steve pulls Nichole's senior picture out of his wallet. Fancy boots, shorts and red fingernails. Very 1995!

Dessert time finally arrived. Nichole made some awesome brownies and cheesecake. Uncle Steve said he would have still married Nichole if she couldn't cook, but man...it sure is nice that she can. I agree.  She makes a mean dessert!

YUM.

We sang Happy Birthday to Mairnee, with Uncle Steve singing the high harmony. Mairnee blew out her candles on the best cheesecake ever. Light and airy and not to cheesy or pumpkin-y. The praline brownies were wonderfully sweet and tasty, too. All of us had to take a few to-go because we were going to bust at the seams.

Uncle Steve bursts out singing "You gonna kiss me or not...." out of the blue.

Grandma says "If the sun sets behind a cloud on Sunday, you'll have rain before Wednesday." Everyone was stuffed and had a great time.
.
Cowboy dip up close.
Happy 23rd Birthday, Mairnee!
Uncle Steve and Nichole leave to take a plate to Lil Sawyer. Megan heads home, too. Mairnee dumps a giant bucket of water on the fire. Don't want the Mustang to catch fire!  Marissa heads home with the homegrown gourds from Uncle Steve and Nichole's garden to put on display in the Penney High School Library.

And a good time was had by all who attended Wednesday night supper club. See you next week!

There was a rumor it would be Pizza Hut week!
